Clarification on Recent Media Reports of Mugin’s UAV Appearing in the Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Mugin Limited is a small civilian UAV enterprise that mainly produces UAV airframes. Since our establishment, we have been firmly committed to designing excellent UAV platforms to benefit humanity.
The applications of our UAV platforms can cover many different fields, such as aerial surveying, geographical monitoring, medical supplies transportation, and disaster relief. In some cases, they can even deliver life-saving blood drops to remote areas.
However, on March 11th, 2023, a drone that appeared to be ours was reportedly used on the battlefield in Ukraine, which has caused a great negative impact on our company’s reputation, seriously damaging our normal business operations.
We want to clarify several points:
1. Our company is only a manufacturer of UAV airframes, which are not inherently harmful. Our products have long served the industrial and civilian sectors. Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, our company has stopped accepting orders from Russia and Ukraine.
2. Our main business comes from Europe and North America. Since the outbreak of the conflict, the airframe that is suspected to be our product has only been exported to North America and has only been sold as empty airframe without any electronic devices. In addition, the electronic devices on the drone are completely different from the ones we recommend on our website.
3. All airframes that produced by our company after January 2019 have a unique serial number to prevent our products from being used for illegal or military purposes. If it is indeed our product and the Ukrainian military or media can provide the serial number, our company can cooperate in tracing the whereabouts of the airframe.
4. Airframes are just one of many links in the UAV industry chain. From the pictures disclosed by the media, the engine used on the drone shot down by the Ukrainian military was produced in the United States, the GPS was produced in Japan, the flight controller and servo were produced in Taiwan China, and the power module was produced in Austria. Therefore, it cannot be concluded that our company manufactured the drone that was weaponized by some organization or individual. Moreover, the electronic components shown in the pictures are not commonly seen in the Chinese drone market, so it cannot simply be called a “Chinese-made drone.”
5. The drone shot down is highly consistent with the drone shot down by the Russian military on January 19, 2023, in terms of details, electronic devices, and assembly methods. It is highly suspected that they were made by the same organization.
Our exports have always complied with national and international laws and regulations, maintaining a good reputation. We welcome the supervision of government departments and international arms control organizations. We strongly condemn and oppose the weaponization of all civilian UAV platforms, including our products, and are very shocked and unacceptable about the use of civilian drones as weapons.
We call on all drone manufacturers and users to abide by international laws, regulations, and ethical standards, ensuring the safe and legal use of drones. We will actively cooperate with relevant departments and organizations to do our utmost to find out the truth of the incident and protect the company’s legitimate rights and reputation. We believe that only through cooperation and communication can we jointly build a peaceful, safe, and prosperous world.
Finally, we reiterate that we do not produce weaponized UAVs or support the use of civilian UAVs for military purposes. We will continue to design and produce high-quality, safe, and practical civilian UAV platforms for the benefit of humanity and the advancement of UAV technology.
